The Old Man of Storr is located on the Isle of Skye's Trotternish Peninsula, about a 15-minute drive (11 km) from the island's main town, Portree. If you are planning on doing the hike as part of a day trip from outside the Isle, know that the trailhead and parking lot are a good 50-minute drive (55 km) from the Skye Bridge connecting Skye to mainland Scotland.

The direct path to the Old Man of Storr Skye is 1km long (0.62mi) with a 250m ascent (820ft). The return walk requires 1 to 2 hours. A longer hike is possible all the way to the top of the Storr mountain (see further below). For photographers, the best time to complete the hike is at sunrise.

One of the most spectacular sights of the Isle of Skye's Trotternish Peninsula is the Old Man of Storr. A rock pinnacle of 50 metres (164 feet) in height is so named because its outline resembles the profile of an old man. This jagged, basalt outcrop is the highest point on the Trotternish Ridge, which was formed by an ancient landslide.
